The last workshop was held in Boulder, Colorado, USA. Home to the University of Colorado, the workshop site was rich in natural beauty. Authors from 12 countries presented 27 papers. The next workshop location, Stockholm, Sweden, promises to be equally exciting with both big city action and country charm. Sweden is one of Europe's leading economic regions with a high concentration of information technology and research. Stockholm is located at the center of innovation for the mobile telecommunications industry, providing a perfect setting for this workshop.
The venue for LANMAN 2002 is the IT-University campus in Kista, the most northern borough of the city of Stockholm, on the highway from Arlanda Airport (ARN) in Sweden. The workshop will be held in the Forum Aula in the Forum building located at Isafjordsgatan 39 on campus.
If you want to stay at a hotel, you have a choice between the Memory Hotel at 1485 SEK/day, located on-campus next to the Forum, or Hotel Mr. Chip at 1360 SEK/day, only five minute walk from the Forum building. These prices are guaranteed up to June 3, 2002. There are plenty of other options for hotels in Stockholm available at a hotel comparison site If you do not care about room service and inhouse restaurants, there are a limited number of student rooms in the KistaIP student housing area (about 3 minutes walk from the Forum building). The student rooms are about one third of the hotel prices.
The entire area (including the hotels, the student housing area, and several hotspots in downtown Stockholm) is covered by high-performance networks with fixed (10/100 ethernet) and/or wireless (IEEE 802.11b) access points. So do not forget to bring your laptop or handheld with an appropriate network interface.
Kista is the major hot spot for Information Technology in Scandinavia. It is located 20 minutes by subway from the city center of Stockholm and the railway station, offering unlimited access to surrounding nature and top tourist destinations. Stockholm's old city Gamla Stan with the Royal Palace is a must see for all visitors, as is the unique archipelago with its 24,000 islands. A great way to see it is to rent a sailing boat or take a short cruise to Finland.
